This was shipped by Amazon it its original box only. When it arrived I saw a big gash on the box. Sure enough, when I opened it there was a major dent in the rim of the firebowl. I immediately called the manufacturer, because the instructions say to call them first before returning it to the retailer. Well they told me to go ahead and contact Amazon for a replacement. I did the return online and it came today. This time the box was placed inside another box with some paper stuffing to protect the inner box. When I opened the box there was no damage. Hopefully, they’ll ship them all like this from now on.This firepit works very well and puts out a lot of heat. The key to getting maximum heat is to make sure that you scatter the small rocks at the very bottom of the bowl. When you start laying the large rocks, do not set them too close to the gas ring. You don’t want to obstruct the holes at all. This will allow the flames to cascade around the larger rocks creating a high flame of 4 – 10 inches. If you let the rocks get too close to the holes the flames won’t be as high. The key is to create a circular tunnel of large rocks over the fire ring.Another bonus is the plastic cover that comes with it. The instructions say to keep it out of the rain and to put it away during rainy weather. Well, I’m too lazy to lug it into the garage every time it rains. When I put the cover on it I was surprised that it covered the whole thing, even the flame-shaped holes on the side. You definitely don’t need to move it inside when it’s raining once the cover is protecting it.I wasn’t keen on the aesthetics of a 20 lb. propane tank sitting out in the open so I also got this deck box to store it in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00013BUW8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1I had to cut out a circle in the bottom so that the tank would fit since the tank is too tall. Now I have a nice looking storage box to house the tank and also to serve as a nice side table. There’s enough room inside to store the firepit cover, a cushion or two, or whatever. There’s a small gap between the bottom and the patio for the hose to fit into so that the hose threads up through the bottom, which you have cut out, and into the tank.Overall, an awesome fire pit. I used it on Thanksgiving night for several hours and didn’t see the gauge on my tank move very much.Update 9/2/15: Still loving this fire pit. I replaced the light weight l lava rocks with regular red lava rocks from my local rock/masonry supplier. Very cheap way to go and the rocks will last forever unlike the ones that are supplied. I’m also adding a picture of the Rubbermaid Brute 44 gallon trash can lid which I use to provide a solid rain cover. Great smokeless fire pit!
Bought the 883 Mega Outdoor version.Included: Comes with cover, lava rocks, and propane tank ring set the tank on which keeps it from tipping over or moving around thereby scraping up flooring or other surfaces.Pros: I like the 10′ long LP hose that’s attached to the unit keeping the tank a safe distance away. Screws into the tank easily as well. The lava rocks heat up in 3-5 minutes and this beast puts out some really nice heat once the rocks are hot. I had to adjust the flames to minimum and back away from it a few inches after the rocks were hot. The bowl is fairly low to the ground ensuring the heat is distributed at optimal height.Cons: None really. The only note I have is that since the bowl itself is 3-4″ above the surface, you might want to setup the fire pit on a non-flammable surface. I bought a 30″ silicon mat designed for fire pits to rest on because I use mine mostly on a wooden deck. This gives an added layer of protection which can be argued as not needed. However, due to my background, safety is paramount when it comes to starting fires around or near flammable materials.Summary: This fire pit is a great alternative to a wood burning version. It produces enough heat for 4-6 people sitting around it. Similar to other reviews, this will be an easy addition to carry along on a camping trip, RV’ing, or an evening on the beach. I highly recommend this item if you’re looking for a smokeless alternative that’s very easy to setup and carry along on an adventure!

Fire lovers only! Very cozy
Great for small deck area and backyards. I love a good fire pit vibe. I usually go for the wood fire pit but we now have a smaller back deck area and this is perfect. Easy to set up. It came with a nozzle for the propane tank, the heating rocks for the fire, and a top cover for the fire pit when not in use.We set it up the first day and started burning right away. We went to the Home Depot for a propane tank for $60 and lit the fire without any problems. Highly recommend. It’s safe, easy to use, and perfect for any area. Smokeless and stylish. After a failed attempt to buy this through a reseller on Amazon, I finally got the Outland Mega Firebowl through Amazon Prime.Easy to set up, looks great, and throws off a lot of heat once the lava stones heat up! (around 20 mins)I read a review on here that said the Mega Firebowl only had 3 legs; that’s false… it has 4 legs and it’s very stable. All of their firebowls are 58,000 BTU’s so it doesn’t matter what one you buy, the same heat will be present at similar settings.I got it going on high heat to get the stones heated up and then we turned it down to past half way and it looked great and still provided ample warmth on a chilly October night!Extremely happy with the build quality and the brand overall, I highly recommend the Mega Firebowl if you’re looking for their largest model!
